Is there any research supporting the claim therapeutic massage removes toxins from the body?

February 20th, 2010 | by admin |

I have started an exercise program and with it have come the associated aches and pains. I’ve visited a therapeutic massage clinic and it seems to help. After the massage, I’m told to drink lots of water to “wash out” the toxins released from the massage. I do drink lots of water, but I suspect few, if any, toxins are removed by massage therapy. Any thoughts?

You can research this subject all over the internet. There have not been many in depth studies about the benefits of massage, though the Touch Institute has some research published. The word “toxins” is misleading, and therapists believe many different things. The only thing that is really proven is that cellular waste is flushed out of cells during massage since you are increasing blood flow (circulation, fresh oxygen and nutrients) to the area, and drinking water promotes healthy cellular function.

it improves the blood flow to the sore muscles. you,re over exercising. that,s why the muscles are sore. just don,t push so hard at 1st.
